Paddy's

Last week our supper club met again.  The location this time was Paddy's, which is located at 210 W. Liberty Street in Charles Town, WV.  We had a slightly larger party this time and Paddy's was a good place for it.  On a Friday night there was a nice supper crowd and the bar seemed popular no matter what time it was.

Speaking of bars, Paddy's has a nice selection of drinks.  Our waitress carried a cheat sheet of sorts with all sorts of mixed drinks selections.  There were some specials written on the chalk board near the bar and as we were in an Irish named establishment, I went with an appropriately named Irish drink.  The Irish shillelaigh was a mixture of Irish whiskey, gin, rum, peach schnapps, lemon juice, and simple syrup.

This baby may look small, but it packed a punch!  It was good when I let it water down a bit.  This drink was $7.95 and a lot of the special drinks were similiarly priced.

I ordered an appetizer of fried pickles to share.  Frankly, I was disappointed by them.  They seemed like jarred pickles that were battered heavily and thrown in the fryer.  A lot of them clumped together or the batter fell off altogether and we were left with soggy pickles.

Another in our party ordered the onion rings. I didn't try them, but they looked good, better than the pickles, which I would recommend skipping.

Paddy's had a fair amount to choose from for dinner.  A few people in our party ordered fish and chips, which was three large pieces of fried cod and french fries along with coleslaw.  Everyone said it was pretty good.

Steak is a special affair at Paddy's.  If you decide you want a steak dinner, a cart is wheeled out to you with two cuts of steak on it: ribeye and New York strip.  You choose how thick you want your steak cut; I believe it is $1.67 an ounce.  You get a side and a salad with your steak dinner.  The salads were a good size.  All of our diners that chose steak seemed happy.

I, of course, had to be completely different.  I got the shrimp and grits.  Beautiful presentation:

Lots of shrimp, which was cooked just right.  The grits were creamy, full of cheese and bacon.  Very tasty dish.

I have been to Paddy's once before, but only for drinks, which we had out on the back patio in nicer weather.  Paddy's seems like a nice neighborhood place to meet friends for a drink or two and a bite to eat.  Friendly people, good service, decent food.
