A path well traveled....
Travel broadens the mind and feeds the soul. Sometimes you don't even have to leave your own environment; you can find places you didn't even know existed in your own backyard, so to speak.
I grew up in Boston. I loved hopping on the subway, getting off at a station near Fanueil Hall, and walking all over the city, exploring. So many different kinds of people, places, foods, and culture. A mix of old and new. It is a wonderful city to expand your mind and tastes.
However, I was also interested in travel, of going to different places in the country and in the world. My travel was limited when I was younger. Family vacations didn't happen to often-I only remember going to Maine a couple of summers. When I was in high school, I traveled to Quebec with the French Club of my high school. That was quite an eye opener. I remember being on a bus with a bunch of my friends and at one point, everyone on the bus was looking at us. That's when we realized we were the only ones speaking English! We saw some beautiful architecture and historical places, but I think I was too young to appreciate it.
As a senior in high school, I had a choice between buying a class ring and going on a trip to Bermuda with members of my senior class. I chose Bermuda. Beautiful tropical island, tons of crazy teenagers, and no one really paying attention to drinking ages-what could go wrong?? We drank alot, laid in the sun, and I returned home with an epic sunburn. Again, too young to appreciate it.
When I married my husband, he was active duty in the Coast Guard. This is really when my adventures began. As a military wife, I went where my husband was stationed. We lived for 3 years in Massachusetts, but then we were transferred to St. Petersburg, FL for 3 years, Guam for 2, Savannah, GA area for 5 years, and when he was assigned to D.C., we bought our house in West Virginia, where we currently reside. If you had asked me in high school where I thought I would live as an adult, I am pretty sure Guam and West Virginia would not have made the list! I have enjoyed everywhere we have lived-they all have their positives and negatives. We have even driven cross country twice by different routes to get to our duty stations and those have been wonderful adventures.
In the last few years, since my kids are older and we trust them at home on their own ;) we have taken the opportunity to do more and travel more. We went on our first cruise this year with our best friends and had a great time. We've been to Las Vegas twice, Kansas City and Dallas to attend events and see friends, Florida to see family, and Denver/Boulder just for the heck of it.
We've traveled in the area to attend concerts, see comedians, and go to different events. We appreciate a good meal and a delicious drink and there have been no shortage of places for us to try.
So I thought, why not have a blog of my experiences? Whether it's a visit to the new local Indian restaurant or a trip to another state or country, anything can be an adventure....and worth a mention or a few sentences.
I am also hoping this blog helps me renew my other one, "Eek a Blog". I need to get my creative juices flowing! And there's no need to wait until January 1st. Every day is a new beginning.
So here's to new beginnings! And adventures!
